Freckles are cute and harmless, but they’re not for everyone. If you’re battling
hereditary freckles that don’t fade in the winter or you want to rid your skin of them
completely, it’s possible to get them gone with invasive treatments such as laser
treatment and chemical peels 皱纹. However, these treatments take time to heal and
come with some serious side effects (not to mention a high price tag). Luckily, there
are some simple skincare hacks that can help you fade or conceal your freckles,
without heading to the dermatologist.
1. Use a tinted moisturizer with sunscreen.
Many skin-care experts suggest using a tinted moisturizer with a SPF rating of at
least 15 or 30. Not only will this hide your freckles, but it will also protect you from
the sun’s damaging UV rays. Just be sure to choose a shade of foundation that
matches or is slightly lighter than your freckles to avoid making them look obvious.
2. Wear long-sleeved shirts and hats to prevent freckles from forming.
Freckle formation is most likely to occur when your skin is exposed to the sun for
prolonged periods of time, so it’s important to cover up with a hat or a light t-shirt
whenever you’re spending too much time outdoors. Also, wearing a hat or covering
up with a large sun hat will prevent the sun from reflecting off of surfaces like snow,
water, and roads, which can cause your freckles to darken.
3. Add more vitamin C to your diet.
Vitamin C is known to help lighten the appearance of dark spots, including freckles.
Try eating more foods such as berries, citrus fruits, and leafy greens to help fade
any discoloration on your skin.
4. Consider a more natural makeup look.
If you want to keep your freckles, you can easily achieve a natural, summery look by
choosing makeup that will not cover up or “mask” them. Experts suggest using a
sheer tinted moisturizer with a SPF, rather than foundation, to avoid adding too
much coverage that will make your freckles look muddy or unnatural. For a
highlighter, celebrity makeup artist Tammy Yi recommends using a cream
highlighter that matches your skin tone, and she suggests dabbing it on the
cheekbones to create a subtle glow.
5. Use a brow pencil to make your freckles appear more natural.
If your freckles disappear in the winter, you can still have them year-round with this
beauty trick: brow pencils. You can use a brown waterproof pencil to mark the areas
on your face where you would like freckles to appear and then blend them in with
your makeup. Celebrity makeup artist Lilly Keys likes to use a mix of dark and light
brown waterproof pencils to draw on “freckled” spots after she’s applied her base
and lipstick.
While most freckles are harmless, it’s always best to consult a doctor if you see any
changes in the color or size of a mole, or if it starts itching, bleeding, or hurting.
